TSA locks are quite popular among travelers and for the right reason too.
It’s because they’re very reliable.
So, don’t regret now for getting one because you made the right choice.
Here we are going to explain how to open and reset a TSA lock when you forget the combination.
Before that, we are going to talk about locks a little bit. So, keep scrolling and learn more!
What Are TSA Locks?
At first, TSA stands for the Transportation Security Administration. Basically, these locks are approved by TSA, and only they have access to each lock’s master key.
There are several other ways to keep your different types of luggage like rolling luggage secure, but a TSA lock ensures that it’s not opened by cutting during an inspection.
These locks make your luggage secure by following rules and regulations of TSA.
If your luggage seems suspicious, then a TSA agent will come and open it by using the master key for inspection. Here, the agent will leave a “Notice of Inspection” inside your luggage if he/she does that.
So, to avoid any cutting up of your luggage, you should use TSA locks.
Now, TSA locks are comparatively easier to use than other locks, but if you want to reset the combination, you need to remember the combination you are using right now.
But if you have forgotten the combination, don’t worry, here’s what you should do:
Opening and Resetting a TSA Lock When You Forget the Combination
So, if you have forgotten your combination or you have a TSA lock stuck in an open position, then you can open and reset it by following the steps of different methods as below:
Method 1: Trying All the Combinations
As the name suggests, you have to actually try all the possible combinations starting from 000 to 999.
You might think that it will take a long time to do so. But in reality, it will take up to thirty to forty minutes and even less if you can remember one or two numbers of the combination.
So, it’s one of the methods that you can try.
Method 2: Dialing and Listening
Here, we are going to talk about a method that some people have found to be effective. And you can do so following the steps below:
Step 1: Apply Pressure on the Lock
At first, you need to apply pressure on the locking system by pushing its button or pulling the lock.
Step 2: Turn the Dial
Here you need to turn the dials and try to hear the sound of a click. So, start turning the first dial and listen closely for a click sound, and if you hear it, then it’s the right number.
Step 3: Repeat
Now, if you have got the first one right, then repeat the same process for the second and the third dials.
Step 4: Opening
Lastly, if you have actually got all the dials right, then it will open. So, this was the second method.
Method 3: Resetting the Combination in Unlocked Stage
This method is for the time when you forget the combination while the lock is open or unlocked. And you can do it following these steps:
Step 1: Set the Dial
At first, you have to set your dial to 000.
Step 2: Turn the Shackle
Here you have to turn the shackle of the lock perpendicularly away from the locked position.
Step 3: Push the Shackle
After turning the shackle, you have to push the shackle of the lockdown in such a way that it is outside of the lock position.
Step 4: Put Desired Combination
Now, you have to put the combination you want to reset your lock.
Step 5: Pull the Shackle
Now just pull the shackle of your lock to where it was.
Step 6: Turn It Back
Lastly, you have to turn the shackle of your lock back to where it was. Basically, turn it to the lock position.
Tip: After resetting the combination, save it somewhere convenient to you so that you can remember it.
